Deputy Governor Landbauer: New focus on children and young people this year

St. Pölten (OTS) At a press conference in Wieselburg on Monday, information was provided about the various disciplines of the Ötscher Trail. Deputy Governor Udo Landbauer, FPÖ parliamentary group leader Ing. Mag. Reinhard Teufel, Herbert Egger, the father of the Ötscher Marathon, organizer Thomas Bosnjak and the Lower Austrian runner Evelyne Lachner gave an outlook on the sporting events, which will take place from 27 to 29 September.

“This running event with its various and challenging disciplines promises to be a real spectacle and is therefore a highlight in the local sporting events calendar,” said Landbauer, who also emphasized: “On the one hand, the focus is on elite sport, which is an important driver for popular sport. On the other hand, promoting young people and popular sport is a clear goal of the Ötscher Trails. It is particularly important to us that even the youngest can show their sporting spirit, because in the sports region of Lower Austria, children and young people are the focus – they are the foundation of both elite and competitive sport as well as popular sport.”

Club chairman Reinhard Teufel explained: “The Ötscher Marathon has been an integral part of the Austrian mountain marathon scene since 1997. This event is not only valuable in sporting terms, but also a benefit for the Lower Austrian tourism region and for the Ötscherland. The further development of this event has also been made possible thanks to the support of Sportland Lower Austria.”

Herbert Egger said that he was the first to organize the Ötscher Marathon as a multi-day event, something that had never happened before in Austria. This created a new format for Austria. Many athletes take part in the sporting events in the Ötscher region again and again, which is the greatest compliment for us.

Organizer Thomas Bosnjak said: One focus of this event will be on environmental protection and safety. The packaging material will be labeled with the participant’s start number, which will be “checked at the start area.”

The “Ötscher Vertical Race” (5.1 kilometers) is the final of the Vertikal Austria Series. The “Marathon Trail” runs through the Ötschergräben, among other places. The “Skyrace” involves easy rock climbing to overcome the “rough ridge” and then continues over the Ötscher summit. The “Speed Trail” sees the summit victory on the “Kleiner Ötscher”. The “Easy Trail” leads through beautiful single trails to the finish in Lackenhof. The “Ötscher Skyrace” will be the final of the Skyrunner Austria Series in 2024, with prize money of 3,000 euros.
