Two explosions in less than 24 hours rock Kennedy, Bogotá

Two explosive devices were detonated in the El Amparo neighborhood, located in the town of Kennedy in the southwest of Bogotácausing panic and forcing the temporary evacuation of residents in the affected area. Although no injuries were reported, at least five homes were damaged by the explosions.which occurred at different times of the day.

The first incident took place in the morning, followed by a second explosion around midnight, according to information provided by local authorities. Lieutenant Colonel Leonardo Bernal Pérez, of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, explained that the anti-explosive teams and the judicial police are investigating the events to determine the circumstances of the explosions.

“We are presented with two incidents and with the anti-explosives group and the judicial police we are verifying the manner in which these detonations of the devices occurred. We are notified by line 123, we arrive at the place and cordon it off. There are no injuries, but there is damage to five houses.“, said the lieutenant colonel.

Authorities have cordoned off the area to conduct the necessary investigations and determine what type of explosive material was used. Although the presence of other devices in the area is ruled out, the community experienced moments of tension and fear in the hours following the incidents.

Residents of the El Amparo neighborhood have expressed concern that these incidents could be related to the territorial dispute between gangs dedicated to micro-trafficking in the area. According to reports from the community, this would not be the first time that clashes have been recorded for control of the territory, which increases fear of an escalation of internal violence.

For now, authorities continue to gather evidence and analyze laboratory samples to identify the specific type of explosive device used in the attacks.
