Shooting Attack at Frankfurt Central Station: 1 Dead

On August 20, a 57-year-old gunman shot and killed a 27-year-old man waiting at Frankfurt Central Station in Frankfurt, Germany, in the head. The attacker was taken into custody by police.

Frankfurt Police said in a statement that the attack took place at around 21:00 local time and that the 27-year-old victim died after being shot in the head. Police said both the attacker and the deceased were Turkish citizens.

“According to the current status of the investigation, the assailant approached the 27-year-old from behind on platform 9 at Frankfurt Central Station at around 9 p.m. and fired several shots with a handgun. The 54-year-old then threw away the murder weapon and fled. Shortly afterwards, federal police officers stopped him on platform 7 and detained him. Help arrived too late for the 27-year-old, who died at the scene. Both men are Turkish citizens. As part of an extensive criminal investigation that lasted until the early hours of the morning, investigators found and secured the suspected murder weapon,” the police statement said.

INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING

The police said that the investigation into the background of the murder was ongoing and added, “The 54-year-old suspect will be brought before the investigating judge of the Frankfurt am Main Regional Court by the prosecutor’s office, who will decide whether to arrest the suspect. Investigations into the background of the crime in particular are ongoing.”
