Russian attacks on Kramatorsk in Ukraine leave one journalist dead and three others injured

One journalist was killed and three others wounded in a Russian attack on the city of Kramatorsk, near the Donetsk front, on Sunday.

The deceased journalist was identified as Ryan Evans, a member of the Reuters team covering the war in Ukraine, the British agency confirmed.

The attack also targeted two other Reuters journalists, a Ukrainian and an American, who were staying at a hotel in eastern Ukraine.

“Ryan Evans, a member of the Reuters team covering the war in Ukraine, was killed and two Reuters journalists were wounded in an attack on a hotel in the city of Kramatorsk.”the international news agency confirmed on Sunday.

According to other reports, a fourth Polish reporter was injured when her vehicle was hit.

“In the middle of the night, the Russians attacked Kramatorsk. One of the targets in the city was a hotel. Right now we know of two wounded and one person is still buried under the rubble.”Donetsk Governor Vadim Filashkin reported on his Telegram channel.

“The three victims are all journalists, citizens of Ukraine, the United States and the United Kingdom”he added.

In addition to the hotel, a nearby apartment building was damaged, Filashkin said, adding that authorities and rescuers were working to remove the rubble and provide relief to those affected.

Reuters news agency reported that one of its six-person teams was staying overnight at the Sapphire Hotel in Kramatorsk, which was targeted in an attack.

“One of our colleagues is missing and two others have been taken to a hospital for treatment.”the agency announced, without specifying the nationality of the informant whose whereabouts are unknown.

A Polish journalist from the weekly ‘Tygodnik Powszechny’, Monika Andruszewska, was also slightly injured when a projectile hit the vehicle she was driving in in Kramatorsk, she said on her Facebook account.

“This is what anyone, anywhere in Ukraine, where the Russians have decided to launch a rocket might look like.”she wrote along with a photo showing her with a bloody arm.

Donetsk Governor Filashkin said that seven civilians had been killed in the region, which is currently experiencing the most intense fighting on the front, on Saturday as a result of Russian attacks, five of them in Kostiantinivka, while 15 people were injured.
