Vienna (OTS) Susanne Schnabl will present the “Report” on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 9:05 p.m. on ORF 2 and on ORF ON with the following topics:

Construction sites of the Republic

Austria is in need of reform, as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, among others, has recently diagnosed. When it comes to climate protection, the OECD does not believe Austria is on track to achieve climate neutrality. The economy is weakening, and at the same time the Fiscal Council is expecting an austerity package after the election. And the problems Austria has with migration and integration are currently evident in violent conflicts on the streets of Vienna. A report by Martin Pusch and Alexander Sattmann on the construction sites of the republic.

Live in the studio: the head of the IHS, economic researcher Holger Bonin, and political scientist Peter Filzmaier

Horror houses

The “Report” reports on a new slum in Vienna, this time in the Landstrasse district. Mostly Syrian refugees live there in desolate living conditions. The conditions in this building were previously unknown to the public – but the authorities have been monitoring it for several years. However, it has not been possible to remedy the problems so far. This also applies to other buildings in Vienna that the “Report” has reported on in recent months. Although a number of authorities are active in the background and in some cases the courts are now dealing with the matter, the situation for the residents has not improved. Yilmaz Gülüm and Faris Rahoma asked the people how they are doing and the authorities why something is not happening more quickly.

Laws against the business model of trespass?

Both the Association for Consumer Education and the ÖAMTC are receiving complaints from drivers on a continuous basis – the reason:
Because they parked illegally on private property, they received a payment notice for several hundred euros. They either pay immediately or face legal action for trespass. Behind this is a business model that makes both the property owners’ and the surveillance companies’ coffers ring. The promise is: hard cash. And that’s for every single person who parks illegally. Many people call it a rip-off – but the law allows the business model. The legislature could change something about this – but is there a majority for it? Matthias Linke reports.
