Joanna Racewicz is undoubtedly one of the best and most beautiful Polish journalists 50+. Few people know that the former presenter of “Panorama” – before starting to work at TVP – received a very solid education: she graduated in Polish studies and journalism (postgraduate studies) at the University of Warsaw.

He was only at the beginning of his professional journey when he met the writer Jerzy Pilch. When they first appeared together at one of the events, the capital’s living rooms went into a frenzy, and the media began to outdo each other in guessing what really connected the famous intellectual with the rising star of television, who was 21 years younger than him .

“Is it a great love or just a living room romance?” – “Głos Szczeciński” asked in 2003.

Racewicz and Pilch made no secret that they had something much more serious in common than sympathy. Despite the significant age difference, they seemed perfect for each other and made a beautiful couple. Jerzy impressed Joanna with his erudition, she gave the impression of not seeing the world beyond him. Although the writer was known for her fickleness in her feelings and her attraction to strong drinks, the journalist hoped that he would settle down with her and stop drinking.

“I’m looking for a woman for life,” the author of the novel “Under the Mighty Angel,” which received the Nike Literary Award in 2001, said in interviews.

When Joanna appeared in his life, he declared that she was “the one” he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

“I have stabilized. I am losing the face of a seducer and I am falling in love with a man, a faithful man who believed in the seriousness of love,” Pilch told “Głos Szczeciński”.

Joanna Racewicz met Jerzy Pilch in the editorial office of “Polityka”, where he published his articles in the weekly. One day she came – she doesn’t remember what it was – she came to visit the editor-in-chief of the magazine. She exchanged a few words with Pilch, whom she met in the editorial corridor, and… she felt butterflies in her stomach. They immediately liked each other and since both had recently broken up with their previous lovers, nothing stopped them from opening their hearts to each other.

Unfortunately, the journalist, busy with her career which was gaining surprising pace, failed to convince the writer to fight his demons. She dreamed of stability, she wanted to have a family, but he was clearly not interested.

“I’m a fornicator. Why do I promise every woman I meet a new life? Why, even though I know I’m lying, do I imagine I’m telling the truth?” – she asked herself in a column.

The breakup with Jerzy was painful for the then 30-year-old TVP star, but… necessary. She didn’t want to stay in a relationship with no future at any cost.

They stopped dating, but when they later met at various events, they always found time to chat. Even though their relationship fizzled out, they managed to maintain their friendship.

Joanna Racewicz found comfort in the arms of a charming BOR officer, Paweł Janeczek.

“Love is longing for another person, waiting for them, believing that nothing will separate us, hoping that all our plans come true. Love is holding hands, waking up and falling asleep next to each other. I have been waiting for a long time , but it finally arrived,” she admitted to “Gali” when it came out that she had married Paweł secretly from the media.

“Only the people closest to us knew about our marriage. This is our private life, we have the right to it. And we will protect this privacy. It is not for show,” he added.

Four years after their wedding, Joanna and Paweł welcomed their son Igor. Unfortunately, shortly after, fate cruelly befell the journalist: her beloved died in a plane crash on April 10, 2010.

Meanwhile, Jerzy Pilch married for the second time (from his first wife, Anna, he had a daughter, Magdalena). Kinga Strzelecka (second wife) was with him until the end. The writer, suffering from Parkinson’s disease, died on May 29, 2020.

When Joanna Racewicz learned of her ex-partner’s death, she posted a photo of them together from years ago on Instagram. She wrote just one word “Jerzy” and added a black heart, thus suggesting that Pilch was indeed close to her.
