Problems with the collection of the Christmas Lottery: the second prize winners have not yet received the money

58303 was awarded second prize in the extraordinary Christmas lottery draw. Last year it distributed 231.2 million euros in 185 series, or 125,000 euros for every tenth winner (1,250,000 euros per series). A real fortune.

Although it was sold throughout Spain, most ended up in La Coruña, where the number 4 administration delivered 130 sets. In the administration number 1 of O Grove (Pontevedra), 45 series were registered.

Where else did he play?

The other cities that enjoyed this “trickle” of millions that gave so much joy to a small part of Spanish society were: Zahara de los Atunes (Cadiz), Cudillero (Asturias), Sant Joan Despí (Barcelona), Belorado (Burgos) and Fuenlabrada (Madrid).

Single tenths were sold to Ferrol (La Coruña), Benasque (Huesca); Gondomar, Nigrán, O Porriño and Sanxenxo (Pontevedra), Úbeda (Jaén), Lugo, Granadilla de Abona (Tenerife); Carboneras and El Ejido (Almería), Vitoria; Don Benito, Mérida and Badajoz capital; Valdelagrana (Cadiz), Palamós (Girona); Motril and Granada capital; Vecindario (Las Palmas), San Andrés del Rabanedo (León), Málaga and San Pedro del Pinatar (Murcia).

strange case

Although the enthusiasm still continues to overflow among the winners, some have now come to doubt the reliability of the Christmas Lottery, since, almost a month later, they have failed to collect the amount that corresponds to them.

This is the case of the Gatocan association, which through its ‘X’ account (formerly known as Twitter) has reported that it is still waiting to receive the full payment of the winning tenths from Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA).

The big problem

And the fact is that, until BBVA pays the prize amount, Gatocan does not have the prize amount and therefore cannot order the payment of the winning shares. A justification addressed to the over 1,300 followers of his account.

“We would like to underline that, to date, we have not received any sum from the prize nor have we been able to access it. Although ABANCA was the entity chosen as custodian of the shares and responsible for making the payments, this entity informs that, despite repeated efforts made with BBVA, it has not made the payment effective,” Gatocan clarifies.

The possibility of suing the BBVA is being studied

Given the repeated – and more than understandable – complaints from the winners, the guardian has “authorized BBVA to make the payment immediately”. He even thinks of filing a complaint against the bank “for improper withholding of the premium and for the serious economic and reputational damage that this association is suffering”.

As if this were not enough, Gatocan reported the incident to the State Lottery and Betting Society (SELAE), which clarified “that it will also require the collaborating entity to report the reason for the delay after so many days, after having submitted all the documentation .”
