Passenger fundraiser for the bus driver who turned the steering wheel
Passengers on a bus – traveling between Barra da Tijuca and Tanque, in the West Zone of Rio – decided to express solidarity in the early hours of 2024. After realizing that the driver of the vehicle had spent New Year’s Eve working, they decided to solidarity crowdfunding” among the bus occupants.
A video circulating on social media shows the moment people start collecting notes and coins – accompanied by cheers and shouts of “he deserves it”. The driver John Lopes de Souza35 years old, told g1 that it was a pleasant surprise.
“It was a really nice gesture, I really liked it. I even got emotional. I was doing the Tanque-Barra route, I was taking the people of Barra da Tijuca to their homes in the Rio das Pedras region. This happened around 3am today,” the driver said.
“They got on the bus and started saying they were having fun and they saw me working. They decided to raise funds to help me, everyone decided to contribute. Everyone gave what they could. It was really fantastic. At first R $ 86 was collected, but as people came down, I collected R $ 168, ”she added.
Jhon Souza said he worked all night and spent New Year’s Eve behind the wheel.
“On New Year’s Eve I would take people to Praça do Ó, who would enjoy the beach. At the time of the fireworks I was behind the wheel. I started work at 8pm and stopped work at 6am.
