For the second time in a short time, a room in Putten was defaced with an anti-Israel slogan.
Yesterday, shortly before the condolences began, the slogan “Fuck Israel” was found outside the door of the Nieuwe Kerk in Putten, reports Omroep Gelderland. It is unclear who is responsible for the graffiti.
On New Year’s Eve 2023, the Commemorative space in memory of the Raid defaced, then with a green Star of David and the date October 7, 2023. This was a direct reference to the day Hamas committed a large-scale terrorist attack on Israel, killing 1,200 people.
In both cases it is not clear who is behind the graffiti.
Men taken away
On 1 October 1944 the German occupiers deported a large part of Putten’s working male population in retaliation for armed resistance action. 659 men were captured, 552 of whom were killed in concentration camps.
After the defacement of the Hall of Remembrance, Gert van Dompseler of the Oktober 44 Foundation spoke of a sad act. “I don’t understand the connection to our space,” he said at the time. “It’s about the raid and has nothing to do with it.”
