Argentine Lionel Messi received the award for best footballer of 2023 in the version of the International Association of Football Federations (FIFA) on Monday in London.
Messi became French champion with Paris Saint-Germain and the Argentine also won the MLS League Cup with Miami Inter.
Norwegian Erling Holland, who helped Manchester City win three major tournaments last year: the English Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League, also won the footballer of the year award. Messi’s former teammate Kylian Mbappe was also among the three finalists.
The award for best footballer of 2023, however, was awarded to Spanish World Cup winner Aitana Bonmati. In addition to the world title, you also won the UEFA Women’s Champions League with the “Barcelona” team.
Among the three finalists was another World Cup winner, Henni Hermoso, and Colombian Linda Caicedo, who became the best young footballer of 2023 in the ranks of Real Madrid, receiving the “Golden Girl” award.
The award for best coach of the year was awarded to Manchester City captain Giuseppe Guardiola and the coach of the English national team Sarina Wiegman, under whose leadership the English team reached the final of the World Cup. Brazilian Ederson Santana de Morais and English Maria Earps were recognized as the best goalkeepers of the year.
The best scorer of the year was recognized as Brazilian midfielder Guilherme Madruga, who scored a goal from outside the area by performing a backflip in a match of the second league of Brazil. The FIFA Fair Play Award went to the Brazilian football team, which changed its yellow jersey to black in support of striker Vinicius Junior after he suffered racist abuse.

Since 1956, “France Football” has awarded the award for the best European footballer, or “Golden Ball”, after the vote of journalists from the continent, but since the winner of this award was often identical to the winner of the best footballer in the world poll created by FIFA, in 2010, after that time, FIFA joined on the initiative of President Sepp Blatter.
