Governor Mikl-Leitner / Deputy Governor Landbauer: “Important image carrier and economic engine for Lower Austria”

St. Pölten (OTS) The Ski World Cup on Semmering, which is held every two years, already has a tradition and an excellent reputation far beyond the country’s borders. However, requirements of the International Ski Federation (FIS) now require investments in the race track and infrastructure. At today’s meeting of the Lower Austrian state government, it was therefore decided that the state would provide support of 154,179 euros for these necessary investments.

Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner: “The state of Lower Austria will continue to be a reliable and strong partner for the Ski World Cup on the Semmering. This means that nothing stands in the way of the ski races on the Magic Mountain. The Ski World Cup is of particular importance to us because this event is an incredibly important image carrier and economic engine for the region and all of Lower Austria. The event will generate a total advertising value of around two million euros. This means that this event will have an impact far beyond our state borders.”

Lower Austria’s State Councillor for Sport and Deputy Governor Udo Landbauer: “A home race in Lower Austria is always something great. With today’s decision, we can adapt the race course to the requirements of the FIS and secure the legendary Ski World Cup on the Magic Mountain. Together with the thousands of fans, we will present our ÖSV ladies with a sea of red-white-red flags and keep our fingers crossed for the first home victory on the new World Cup course.”

The investments in the race track are essential to ensure that national and international winter sports events, especially FIS women’s ski world cup races, can continue to take place in the future. “This is primarily about safety and infrastructure expansions. This requires reconstruction work on the piste and in the start and finish areas, a partial increase in the width of the piste and the renewal of the safety nets. A realignment of the stands and corridors for spectators is also planned,” emphasises Landbauer.

In addition, Governor Mikl-Leitner thanked the municipality and the cable car operators: “Everyone involved is pulling together in this project. A big thank you also goes to the municipality of Semmering, which has always actively supported the World Cup and is also contributing more than 85,000 euros to this project. Another important partner for many years has been Semmering-Hirschenkogel Bergbahnen GmbH, without whose reliable commitment the World Cup on Semmering would not be possible.”
