A young English marketer is currently living in a five-star resort in Turkey for a month. That sounds like an expensive joke, but in reality it is cheaper than living in his home city of Manchester for a month.
Josh Kerr came across a video a while ago of an American man who calculated that it was cheaper to live in an all-in five-star hotel than to rent an apartment. Josh decided to put it to the test himself and search for such a hotel on the booking website On The Beach. To his surprise, the cheapest hotel was only 938 pounds (about 1,100 euros).
“I pay £950 for my rent, bills and taxes,” Josh says on his Tiktok account. “Here you get breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and snacks for £937.10. What are we doing here in England?” A week later he received a message from the booking website On The Beach, where they had seen the video.
“Unfortunately, the hotel I showed in the previous video is not open until March,” Josh said on Tiktok. “Luckily for me, there is another five-star resort, and that is where I will be staying.”
The accommodation costs £944.10 all together, which is still over £5 cheaper than all his costs of living in Manchester. “All On The Beach wants to do is give me a month-long honest account of what it’s really like to live in a five-star resort.”
Better life for less money
Josh will work remotely in Turkey, which means he will still have an income and therefore live cheaper than in England. In the meantime, he already posted some videos in the hotel. He shows that there is a store with real Rolexes in the hotel and that the weather is a lot better than in Manchester. Josh is lying on the beach, under a blue sky at 21 degrees. In Manchester there is currently wind and rain with temperatures between 7 and 12 degrees. The choice was quickly made.
“When we saw his Tiktok about how cheap it is to live in a five-star hotel for a month, we knew we had to challenge him to do it,” Zoe Harris, chief customer officer at On The Beach, told Metro. “It’s a brilliant idea for anyone who can work remotely. Pack your bags, put your apartment or house on a rental site for a month to cover your mortgage or rent and live in the sun for a month instead, and you’ll still have money saved.”
How Josh fares during his stay at the resort can be followed every day on his Tiktok account. Although it remains to be seen whether he will get his fill from all the unlimited buffets.
