Gabriel Attal was appointed prime minister by President Emmanuel Macron, replacing Elisabeth Borne, who had submitted the resignation of her government the day before, the Elysée announced on Tuesday 9 January.
“The President of the Republic has appointed Gabriel Attal prime minister and entrusted him with the task of forming a government”, specifies the French presidency in a press release.
At 34, Attal becomes the youngest Prime Minister in the history of the Fifth Republic.
Former Minister of Public Accounts and former government spokesperson, Gabriel Attal has been Minister of National Education since July 2023.
On Monday, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne presented the government’s resignation to the French president, who accepted it.
