Clandestine graves with 10 bodies discovered in Morelia, Mexico

Authorities in the Mexican state of Michoacán discovered a dozen human bones in two clandestine graves in a town located in an avocado production area.

The investigation file initiated by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) specifies that the clandestine graves were found by farmers who this Sunday were walking in a wooded area of ​​the town of Zirimícuaro, in the municipality of Ziracuaretiro (center of Michoacán).

Forensic experts used canine pairs to search the terrain, managing to exhume a total of ten human bones, with alleged signs of gunshot wounds or violence.

The dozen bodies were sent to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo), where specialists carry out various studies to determine the time and cause of the deaths, as well as the sex and identities of the victims.

One of the lines of investigation that the Prosecutor’s Office is following points to the possibility that the victims have been murdered by hitmen in the service of drug trafficking.

Ziracuaretiro has around 19,000 inhabitants and borders the municipality of Uruapan, the second most important city in Michoacán, only behind the capital Morelia. This area is considered the “Emerald Valley” due to its predominant avocado production activity, of export quality to the United States and Europe.

Information from the State Security Table (a body in which the Federal and Michoacán governments participate, as well as the prosecutor’s offices of the Republic and the State), specifies that criminal organizations calling themselves the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Cartels operate in Ziracuaretiro. United and the Knights Templar.

These criminal groups dispute, with blood and fire, the production and trafficking of drugs such as marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl.

The Secretariat of the Mexican Navy (Semar) has detected cocaine trafficking networks that from South America enter Mexican territory through the Michoacan Pacific. Fentanyl from Asia is also trafficked through this area.
