Chilean Vinko Tomičić wins special jury prize at Lima Film Festival

The 28th Lima Film Festival came to a close with the awarding of the best films chosen by the jury, including ‘Simón de la Montaña’ by Argentine director Federico Luis as best fiction film, as well as the public’s favorites and other awards given by different entities, the organization announced on Sunday.

The jury, made up of Daniela Vega, Juan Antonio Vigar, Rocío Jadue, Karina Pacheco and Lila Avilés, announced the award for best film to the film directed by Federico Luis and co-produced by Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, which was awarded $4,000 by the BBVA Foundation.

The special jury prize went to ‘The Dog Thief’ by Chilean director Vinko Tomičić Salinas, a co-production between Bolivia, Chile, Mexico, France, Ecuador and Italy.

The jury award for best director went to ‘Raíz’ by Peruvian director Franco García Becerra, and the best script went to Klaudia Reynicke and Diego Vega for the film ‘Reinas’, co-produced by Peru, Switzerland and Spain.

Meanwhile, the best first film was the Peruvian film ‘Kinra’ by director Marco Panatonic, which received $2,500 from EPIC.

The award for best photography went to Italian Lorenzo Casadio Vanucci for ‘The Wild Woman’ by Cuban director Alán González.

The award for best actress was given by Inter Artis Peru to the Argentine Maribel Felpeto for her role in the film ‘Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed’ by director Hernán Rosselli, while the award for best actor went to the Argentine Lorenzo Ferro for his performance in ‘Simón de la Montaña’.

In the Latin American documentary competition, the winner was ‘The Fabulous Gold Harvesting Machine’ by Chilean director Alfredo Pourailly De la Plaza and was awarded a prize of $4,000 by EGEDA.

The international critics’ jury award for best film went to the Peruvian film ‘Kinra’ by Marco Panatonic, which received $2,500 from the BBVA Foundation, and the public award for best film in the Peruvian, Latin American fiction and Latin American documentary competitions went to the Peruvian film ‘Karuara, la gente del río’ by directors Miguel Araoz and Stephanie Boyd.

The film ‘Karuara, the People of the River’ also won the jury prize for best Peruvian film, while ‘El Huaro’ by Peruvian director Patricia Wiesse won the awards for best director and the prize from the community of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), which organizes the festival.

The Ministry of Culture also awarded a prize of 1,000 dollars, given by EGEDA, to the Peruvian film ‘Kinra’ and the Peruvian Association of Cinematographic Press (APRECI) also chose the Panatonic film as the best in the Latin American fiction competition.

In the 16th Short Film section, another jury made up of Fabrizio Aguilar, Paula Féliz-Didier and Jorge Acevedo awarded an honorable mention to ‘I Wish I Could Tell the Truth’ by Peruvian director Víctor Augusto Mendívil and ‘Puquio’ by Peruvian director Samantha Avila.

The jury’s special prize and the public’s choice award went to “Ovejas y lobos” by Peruvian director Alex Fischman, while the best short film was ‘Devenir Rosa’ by Peruvian director Valeri Hernani.
