Armenia is expanding its defense procurement strategy, seeking to acquire a wider range of military products from India, including advanced military drones and medium-range surface-to-air missiles. This is reported by the “Indian Defense Research Wing” portal.

It is noted that Armenia has already acquired the Akash 1S air defense system and is discussing the possibility of acquiring Indo-Israeli MR-SAM medium-range missiles and Akash-NG medium-range air defense systems.

“Although India has not yet started supplying the Akash 1S system to Armenia, it is expected that these supplies will start next year.

Akash 1S is a modern anti-aircraft defense system capable of hitting aircraft at a distance of up to 30 km, providing reliable protection against air threats. Apart from Akash 1S, Armenia has shown interest in two other anti-missile defense systems.

The MR-SAM, developed in collaboration between India and Israel, is already in production and has been proven to be an effective device.

And the Akash-NG, an improved version of the Akash missile, is still waiting for orders from the Indian Army and Air Force, which may delay its entry by 2-3 years,” the “IDRW” portal notes.

According to IDRW sources, after starting deliveries of the Akash 1S, Armenia plans to conduct thorough technical evaluations of the MR-SAM and Akash-NG system to ensure it meets their defense requirements.

“Based on these evaluations, a decision will be made between MR-SAM and Akash-NG,” the “IDRW” portal notes.
