MADRID, (Portaltic/EP). – Apple plans to launch a new version of its Mac mini computer, which will arrive later this year and will be the smallest desktop PC manufactured by the company, as well as incorporating the power of the M4 processor to boost Artificial Intelligence (AI) functions, according to Gurman.
Apple plans to update its Mac mini line of computers with new versions that will arrive in the coming months and that will represent a significant design update, the first since its last renovation in 2010.
This was announced by Bloomberg analyst and journalist Mark Gurman, according to statements from sources close to Apple, who have indicated that the company is also working on versions of the desktop iMac and the MacBook Pro with M4 chips.
The new updated Mac mini, which will arrive at the end of 2024, will have a renewed design that will significantly influence its size. According to the analyst, it will be the smallest version manufactured by the company so far, reaching the size of an Apple TV device.
According to Gurman, the new model will be smaller in width, approaching that of the Apple TV, which measures about 3.7 inches wide. That’s less than half the size of the current Mac mini. It will also retain its aluminum casing.
In terms of connectivity, Gurman said that Apple has tested models with at least three USB-C ports, a power cable and an HDMI port. Also, this Mac mini will include the latest generation of the Apple Silicon chip, M4, designed to power AI functions, which the company launched in May of this year and is already being used in the new iPad Pro.
The chip is built using second-generation 3-nanometer (nm) technology to deliver outstanding performance in a slim body. It also features a more advanced 16-core Neural Engine to accelerate AI tasks, capable of performing 38 trillion operations per second. According to the people involved, the new Mac mini will be the equivalent of an iPad Pro in a small box.
Gurman also stressed that Apple is also working on a second version of the new Mac mini. Both models are known internally by the code name J773, however, this one will incorporate the M4 Pro chip, a processor that the technology company has not yet presented and that will include support for more memory and more graphical power.
The Bloomberg journalist already reported last April that the technology company was working to renew its entire line of Mac computers with M4 chips and a new family of internal processors that will arrive at the end of this year and beginning of next year.
According to the details provided at the time, there are three different models: the basic one is Donan, followed by a more powerful one called Brava and a high-end processor, known internally as Hidra.
