At the end of the month, Pablo Teillier’s work will be presented, “a large-format show, the actors sing and dance to live music, on stage, which allows the spectators to travel through the history of Chile accompanying the characters who, from a Soda Fountain in the center of Santiago, witness and recount our political and republican history of the lastlast decades from Chile”.

“The Century”. Santiago. 8/2024. This August 28, 29 and 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the Viaje Inmóvil Theater Room, Amelia (formerly Adela) 2151, Independencia (Chacabuco Metro Station) the play “Allende, the interrupted odyssey of a town that wanted to fly” written and directed by Pablo Teillier, who is also the director of the school, will be presented by the Theater Company of the Popular School of Recoleta.

In conversation with The Century.clTeillier indicated that “this work is a large-scale show, the actors sing and dance to live music on stage, which allows the spectators to travel through the history of Chile accompanying the characters who, from a soda fountain in the center of Santiago, witness and recount our political and republican history of the last decades in Chile.”

He added that “recounting, telling the story so that it does not disappear, keeping the memory alive. The story is told in a loving way by those who humbly take the voice of iconic figures of our history such as Arturo Alessandri, Ibáñez del Campo, Gabriel González Videla, María Maluenda, Pablo Neruda and Salvador Allende himself. They tell their experiences, defeats and triumphs.”

“The work presents us with the story of the people who began to form a popular movement and who took four elections to bring Salvador Allende to the presidency,” said Pablo Teillier.

The author and director said that “from a deeper perspective, a work like this is very pertinent for our country, since it seems that there is an intention to deny history to the new generations and that, we realize as a collective, causes several problems. The first, that it seems that history cruelly repeats a formula orchestrated by a handful of families to maintain positions of privilege and finally it is the simplest men and women who pay the most expensive consequences.”

Pablo Teillier said that this short season is very special for him, as it commemorates one year since the death of his father, Guillermo Teillier del Valle, who was president of the Communist Party and a prominent social and anti-dictatorial fighter. “It is very coherent to commemorate his death in a theater. My father never missed a premiere of mine, he was always proud of my work, I remember that he especially liked it when I premiered at the National Theater. I know that he was absolutely aware of the importance of theater. As a writer, he also gave me permission to adapt his first work ‘De academias y urbanos’. This gave us a special complicity around literature and theater.”

When asked about his future artistic projects, Pablo Teillier said that he is preparing with the Huambaly Orchestra to play alongside Inti Illimani on September 7th, replicating what was the presentation at the Olmue Festival, in addition to acting in a soap opera from a well-known television company, of which he did not give further details, because he cannot reveal the content of the story that must be kept confidential.

Finally, Pablo Teillier commented that “entry to the theatre performance is ‘on a hat’ basis, thus allowing access to the entire public, which makes us extremely happy”, that is, making a contribution to the theatre.
