American actress Shannen Doherty, who starred in the series ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ and ‘Charmed’, died at the age of 53 after a long battle with cancer, the specialized media outlet People reported on Sunday.

“It is with great sadness that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer,” Doherty’s publicist Leslie Sloane told the outlet.

Sloane added that at the time of her death the singer was surrounded by her loved ones and her dog Bowie.

The singer was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and after temporarily beating it in 2020, she announced that the disease had returned a year earlier.

Doherty rose to fame thanks to the hit series ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ (‘Beverly Hills, 90210’), in which she played the role of Brenda Walsh and remained in it until its fourth season, although she later made appearances as a guest actress in two reissues that were made in 2008 and 2019.

The actress played Prue Halliwell, the eldest of three sisters who discover they have supernatural powers in the series ‘Charmed’, which premiered in 1998 and in which she participated until the end of the third season. Doherty even directed some episodes.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, the actress moved with her family to Los Angeles, where at the age of 10 she began to have her first roles, which led to Michael Landon recruiting her a year later to play Jenny Wilder in the series ‘Little House on the Prairie’.
